REPORT: New York Giants Trade for Buffalo Bills’ Former Second-Round Pick DE

After being selected as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Boogie Basham’s time with the Buffalo Bills has officially come to an end. This is after the Bills decided to send the defensive end to the New York Giants as part of Tuesday’s flurry of moves across the league.

REPORT: Giants Strike Deal With Bills for Boogie Brasham

League insider Tom Pelissero broke the news on Twitter:

“Trade! The #Bills are sending DE Boogie Basham to the #Giants, per source,” Pelissero wrote in his tweet.

Pelissero also reports that the Bills and the Giants will be swapping late-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft as part of the deal.

You have to say that Giants general manager Joe Schoen was likely the main driving force of this move. Schoen, who was the same GM who drafted Basham as the Giants’ second-round pick in 2021, clearly sees a lot of potential in the 25-year-old DE. Schoen liked what he saw from the former Wake Forest standout during their time together in Buffalo, and the high-ranking executive has now succeeded in recruiting Basham to play for him in New York.

According to reports, the Bills were planning on cutting Basham after a rather forgettable first two seasons with the squad. Schoen and the Giants knew that it was unlikely that they were going to be able to claim the 6-foot-3, 218-pound DE off the waiver wire, and they deemed it was worth paying a future pick swap to ensure that they would get their hands on Basham.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who also saw Basham first-hand during the coach’s tenure with the Bills, is also familiar with what his new DE brings to the table. However, Daboll has also provided an early caveat for Basham in terms of what he should expect in New York:

“This is acquiring another player from a different roster,’’ said Daboll, via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “We know the player a little bit, the person and stuff like that, but he’s got to learn a whole new defensive scheme.’’
