The fourth week of the NFL season was full of surprises including upsets and blowouts. But probably the biggest surprise was these two fines handed out to Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Jerry Tillery and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. One of them was fined for a celebration, and the other was not given enough punishment for dirty play. Here is what NFL fans think the proper punishment should have been for both of these players.
Jerry Tillery
The first fine comes from the Las Vegas Raiders matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Raiders defensive lineman Jerry Tillery was fined $10,927 for his hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert was very obviously running out of bounds, and Tillery took him down to the ground when the play was already blown dead. This caused the Los Angeles sideline to get in Tillery’s face to teach him a lesson.
How was Jerry Tillery only fined $10k for this?
Should’ve been suspended…

This hit is what caused the hefty fine, but fans and analysts alike are saying that he should have been suspended for the dirty play. Tillery used to play for Los Angeles and was released due to his personal foul issues which would affect the outcome of games. It seems that his issues with being a dirty player have carried over to Las Vegas as this hit was completely unnecessary and should be given a much bigger punishment for his boneheaded mistake.
Stefon Diggs
The second controversial fine to come from Week Four comes from Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs was fined $13,659 for a celebration that involved him grabbing two beers from a fan and clanging them together before throwing them back toward the crowd. The NFL claimed this to be unsportsmanlike conduct which caused the hefty fine even though Diggs was not even flagged for the celebration during the game.
Why was Stefon Diggs fined for this?
The celebration rule is so unnecessary.
Let these players have their fun. Who carespic.twitter.com/6akBYa5Hki

This sent the NFL world into an outrage over the incident. Fans and analysts are saying the NFL needs to start allowing players to celebrate again since it brings more fun to the game. The main criticism the league is receiving is the hefty amount the star receiver was fined, and with good reason. How are you going to fine a player who celebrates after scoring more than the player who attempted to hurt one of the NFL’s star quarterbacks? It just does not make sense and the league needs to look into changing the punishments for both players.
NFL Fines
The National Football League has changed its policies many times over the years. It just seems that they cannot get it right when it comes to punishing players for disorderly conduct. These two fines in particular have caused lots of outrage across the NFL world, causing a plethora of criticism on Twitter.
The NFL has had many controversial fines and calls handed out to players, and this is no different. It is good that fans and analysts see that these rulings are completely unfair, and should be changed by the league as soon as possible.
