The NFL is all about their TV viewership, and over the past few years the league has managed tp play games on the American major holidays. While Thanksgiving has always been a football day, the league decided to play a game on the day after thanksgiving for the first time. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets played on that Friday, and now the NFL is going to have a game on Christmas Day.
NFL Fans React To Christmas Day Game
The 2024 season will include at least one game on Christmas Day which will be on a Wednesday this year. The Christmas Day viewership has been a day for the NBA for many years now, and the NFL is going to change all of that in one season. It is no secret that NFL viewership is dominant and now with a game on Christmas Day, the NBA is likely to lose a lot of its viewers.
According to CBS Sports Jonathan Jones, the league is changing their stance on Christmas Day that they have held for many years. This is a clear competitive move against the NBA.
Fans Are Sad For The NBA
Here are some of the best fan reactions to the news that broke on Tuesday:
“Least surprising development. Tough times for the NBA,” one fan said, noting that Christmas Day games in the NBA have been a long tradition.
“We really need to grow a backbone and stop watching this product outside of Sunday and Monday night. This is getting absurd,” another fan said.
“NFL players continue to get the short end of the stick. Having to play on Wednesday after a game on Sunday is insane,” said one fan.
“The NFL, bullying the NBA and time with families like no other,” said another fan.
“Had to know this was coming. Way too many people sitting around watching TV on Christmas for the NFL to stay away,” one fan added.
We will have to wait and see how this will impact the NBA viewership, and before long it seems like the NFL will be playing games every day of the week.
