The NFL has made their decision on the infamous ‘tush push’ that everyone has been complaining about. It appears that the play is not going anywhere in the future and that formation for a quarterback sneak is here to stay.
NFL’s Tush Push Is Here To Stay
Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations, told reporters that the league is not even considering to present a proposal for the formation and play to be ban. While many fans have called for the play to be banned, the league is not thinking that way at all.
“There wasn’t the sort of injury data that would give the committee the opportunity to make a decision,” Vincent said, via Yahoo Sports.
The play became notorious by the Philadelphia Eagles who coined it the ‘Tush Push’ in the past few seasons, and no one is more successful at it than Jalen Hurts behind Jason Kelce. It was basically unstoppable for this team in short yardage situations, especially at the goal line. To call it a cheat code would be appropriate to some degree. However, now that Jason Kelce has left the team, we will see if the play is as potent for the team going forward.
Andy Reid Chimes In On The Tush Push
Andy Reid chimed in on the play hinting at the fact that the Eagles probably do not practice it all to much, as having scrums like that at practice are probably not the smartest thing. He expressed that the Eagles just are especially good at it because of their quarterback that has the legs of an powerhouse running back. He was quoted saying:
“That’s a tough one to practice. You almost have to do it live,” Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said about the play before taking on the Eagles last season. “So I don’t think they’re spending a ton of time on it. I just think they’re good at it. I think their inside three do a pretty good job with it and they’ve grown with it over time. That’s what I see.”
Now we know the Tush Push is not going anywhere, so we should see a few teams doing it this next season. The teams that have powerful quarterbacks may look to that play to get a yard or two. For the Eagles, the question will be, if Jalen can be as successful on this play without his Hall of Fame center leading the way.
