The Dallas Cowboys had a disaster in Wednesday’s practice. This comes in the form of undrafted rookie wide receiver David Durden being forced to exit the field after suffering what appears to be a significant leg injury.
Cowboys Rookie David Durden Carted Off Field During Wednesday’s Practice
ESPN league insider Todd Archer was one of the first to break the news on Twitter:
“Undrafted WR David Durden is being carted off the field with an apparent leg injury during 1 on 1 work. Notable: just about every offensive and defensive player went to Durden before he was taken to the locker room,” Archer wrote in his tweet.
The fact that nearly the entire team approached Durden to console him does not bode well in terms of the gravity of this injury.
A video of the incident has been making its rounds on social media. In it, Durden is seen collapsing to the ground during a 1-on-1 drill against Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs:

This looks like a non-contact injury, which makes it worse. Durden immediately grabbed his leg as soon as he hit the deck. It looked like he was in significant pain as the coaching staff rushed to his side. Durden could not walk on his own, which is why the medical team had no choice but to cart him off the field.
There are currently no substantial updates on the injury — the Cowboys suspect that the WR has torn an anterior cruciate ligament — but at this point, it would not be surprising if the 24-year-old ends up missing significant time because of this knock.
David Durden Has Had a Rough Training Camp
Sadly, this isn’t Durden’s first injury in training camp. Earlier this month, the former Mercer and West Florida standout suffered a concussion in practice after making a heroic touchdown catch. It was an eye-popping play, no doubt, but it came at a significant cost for Durden:

What you can say for sure is that this young man is going all out in practice as he tries to fight for his spot in the rotation. The recent injury is a truly unfortunate incident.
