New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson made a triumphant return to the starting lineup in Week 14, and sure enough, he couldn’t hide his delight with the result he got.
After being demoted to basically the Jets’ third-string QB before Week 12, Wilson returned as QB1 on Sunday against the Houston Texans since the Tim Boyle experiment didn’t really work.
Surprisingly, against CJ Stroud and a thriving Houston Texans squad, Wilson stepped up and showed the Jets what they missed after benching him. He outshined Stroud in the contest, finishing with 301 yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-36 pass completion.
Even better, the Jets got the win, demolishing the Texans 30-6. Stroud didn’t pose any threat at all, with the rookie quarterback tallying just 91 yards on 10-of-23 passing. It didn’t help the Texans that their signal-caller suffered a head injury in the fourth quarter, though at that point, Houston had no chance to come back.
Speaking to reporters after the victory, Wilson shared how proud he is of the Jets and their performance. Following some brutal losses and ugly offensive struggles, they finally got something going.
For Wilson, the showdown with the Texans is an example of how they should play and what they can achieve as a team.
“Winning is always fun and that’s what we want right there. That’s what we want every game to look like,” Wilson said, per Associated Press.
Sure enough, that is also what New York Jets fans would want to see from Zach Wilson and the rest of the team moving forward. While it will be hard for the franchise to make the playoffs at this point, at least closing out the season with a bang should give them something to build on moving forward.
Zach Wilson Draws Praise After New York Jets Display
Zach Wilson is undeniably the hero of the New York Jets’ Sunday win against the Houston Texans. He brought some much-needed stability on offense, and his crisp passing despite the heavy rains made a ton of difference.
His Jets teammate, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, said as much, highlighting that Wilson really “balled” in the contest.
“Zach Wilson balled man. He put it all out there, throwing dots in the rain. Zach went crazy today. He’s got all the faith in us in the world, it’s great to see him go out there and just hoop,” the 23-year-old wideout said, via team reporter Harrison Glaser.
If Wilson can replicate what he did Sunday in their last four games, it will be interesting to see where the Jets will be when the season ends.
