The Zach Wilson era with the New York Jets looks to have come to an unceremonial screeching halt on Monday. Per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets and Robert Saleh have benched Wilson in favor of Tim Boyle ahead of Friday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
Wilson took over for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers after the latter tore his Achilles in the first quarter of the season’s first game. However, poor production, the story of Wilson’s NFL career thus far, has led to the Jets making a change under center.

Tim Boyle/Zach Wilson…it doesn’t matter. QB position was third in the pecking order of problems for #Jets offense. Play caller & OL are the biggest issues

The Jets locker room must feel so inspired by inserting Tim Boyle into the lineup 3 weeks after the trade deadline.

New York Jets: Benching Wilson for Tim Boyle
Quarterback Zach Wilson will head to the bench for next Friday’s tilt against the Miami Dolphins. The former second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft replaced the injured Aaron Rodgers earlier in the season but failed to produce in any meaningful matter. The Jets went 4-6 with Wilson barking out the play calls, throwing six touchdowns against seven picks. Wilson’s performance hit a season-low over the past two games, going 30-of-54 for 344 yards and one touchdown with two picks.
The New York Jets named Tim Boyle their Week 12 starter on Monday. Boyle replaced Wilson late in yesterday’s 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills, going 7-of-14 for 33 yards and a pick. The 29-year-old threw two touchdowns against two picks in four preseason games. Boyle played for the Chicago Bears in 2022 but made only eight pass attempts while throwing two picks. However, the Eastern Kentucky product started three games for the Detroit Lions in 2021, going 61-of-94 for 536 yards and three touchdowns with six picks.
