The New York Jets are entering the free agent and 2024 NFL draft preparations ready to attack and get back to the postseason for the first time since 2010. However, they are going to be without one of their top front office members, according to Connor Hughes of SNY.
The New York Jets and assistant general manager Rex Hogan reportedly have mutually agreed to part ways on Wednesday. There is no explanation as to the reasoning behind this decision but will be a big loss for Gang Green’s front office. He has been part of the organization for the previous five seasons as an assistant general manager of the team.
He has a pretty solid history as the Director of Football Operations for the University of Utah in 2003 before becoming a scout for the Chicago Bears for 11 years. He would continue to climb the ranks as his first stint with the Jets from 2015-2017 was as the Senior Director of College Scouting before leaving to become the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Indianapolis Colts for two years.
It will be interesting to see where Hogan ends up as it should not be long that he is on the market. It will be intriguing to see who the Jets are able to get to fill his position as well.
How should the New York Jets address the 2024 NFL draft?
It is clear with his background that Rex Hogan had some hand in the NFL draft but without him, the New York Jets drafting strategy may change a bit. With ample experience in scouting, the team lost a great piece but they still have to be ready for the 2024 NFL draft.
With the 10th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Jets have some interesting options. They could draft an offensive lineman as Joe Alt, Taliese Fuaga and Olumuyiwa Fashanu are all expected to be selected in that area of the draft. The team could also look to get a solid playmaker like tight end Brock Bowers or wide receivers Roman Wilson, Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze.
There is also the chance that the team trades back in the first to get a crack at getting back a second-round pick or a lower first since they do not have their second-round pick from the Aaron Rodgers trade. There are a lot of possibilities but strengthening the offense is critical for general manager Joe Douglas and his staff.
