Last season was a disaster for the New York Jets after superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed most of the campaign due to an injury. Fortunately, the team’s running back crew is ranked among the top 10 ahead of the 2024 NFL season, giving them a chance of actually competing on the field.
The Jets’ 2023 campaign was a mixed bag, with the team showing promise but ultimately falling short of the playoffs. Quarterback Zach Wilson had an up-and-down year, flashing his potential at times but also struggling with consistency and turnovers.
Despite Wilson’s inconsistency, the Jets’ offense was bolstered by the emergence of wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who built on his strong rookie season. The defense also had its bright spots, with the secondary led by cornerback Ahmad Gardner and safety Jordan Whitehead.
However, the Jets’ season was derailed by injuries, particularly along the offensive line and to key defensive players. This exposed depth issues that general manager Joe Douglas will need to address in the offseason.
With a talented core in place, the Jets have the potential to take a step forward in 2024. But they’ll need to shore up their weaknesses and get more consistent play from the quarterback position to end their playoff drought.
New York Jets Running Back Group Included in PFF’s Top 10 Ahead of the 2024 NFL Season
Having Rodgers return in a form close to his prime with the Green Bay Packers will immensely help New York compete for next season. Fortunately, the Jets have a running back crew ranked within PFF’s top 10, as written by Trevor Sikkema, to help the team reach the playoffs next year.
“The Jets are light on backs with experience beyond Breece Hall, but Hall has already established himself as one of the best in the league. He earned a 77.8 rushing grade with an 88.9 receiving grade in 2023, all while ranking as a top-10 running back in PFF wins above average (0.14).
He can do so much for this offense at such a high level. Behind him are two rookies, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, as well as the speedster Izzy Abanikanda,” Breece Hall,” Sikkema wrote.
Last season, the Jets finished third in AFC East division with a record of seven wins and 10 losses. They ended up with an offense that was ranked 29th out of 32 teams while fielding a top 12 defense.
It remains to be seen how the Jets will perform once Rodgers comes back next season. Hopefully, his return works well with the team’s running back crew, potentially leading to a playoff appearance next year.
