The NFL and Roger Goodell are at it again, handing New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams a sizable fine for a presumably accidental hit in last Thursday’s blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the league handed Williams a $16,391 fine for a hit on quarterback Joe Flacco.

Per Pelissero, Williams was also fined $10,927 for a separate unnecessary roughness violation last week. Additionally, his brother, Quincy, who plays for the Jets, has received multiple fines.
Williams: Fined for Hit on Joe Flacco
Late in the second quarter, Williams attempted to knock the ball out of Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco’s hands but slapped him in the top of the helmet as the latter stepped up in the pocket. Flacco immediately ran to his left with Williams in hot pursuit. The former Super Bowl MVP hit running back Jerome Ford near the sideline, with the offensive skill player taking the ball 50 yards for a score.
The Browns dominated the Jets, taking a 34-17 lead into halftime. Flacco finished with 309 yards passing and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Williams finished the contest with two tackles. He has not recorded a full sack since early December and has had just 1.5 sacks since mid-November.
New York Jets DL Quinnen Williams: Pro Bowl Season
Williams, the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, played collegiately at Alabama. After three solid seasons with the New York Jets, he broke out in 2022, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod and first-team All-Pro honors. He posted a career-high 12.0 sacks and 12 TFLs. Williams again earned a spot in the Pro Bowl this season. He enters the season finale with a career-best 59 tackles and a safety. The first-level defender also has 3.5 sacks and nine TFLs. However, despite Williams anchoring a solid defense, they scored 15.7 points per game, the third-worst average in the NFL.
