The New York Giants are keeping a close eye on LSU Tigers wide receiver Malik Nabers throughout the NFL Draft process. No matter who general manager Joe Schoen decides to take sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants will be landing a very talented player.
There have been many NFL Mock Drafts that have had the Giants making different decisions. One day mock drafts have them taking Jayden Daniels, another day have them taking J.J. McCarthy, another day they have them taking Drake Maye, and so on and so forth.
Anyhow, Dan Duggan of The Athletic did his final mock draft before next Thursday’s NFL Draft. The Giants will have six selections in the 2024 NFL Draft and will see what direction they head in.
Dan Duggan Has the New York Giants Taking LSU Tigers Wide Receiver Malik Nabers Sixth Overall In the 2024 NFL Draft
Duggan has the Giants taking Nabers with the sixth selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. He gave his reasoning as to why he has New York making this move:
“The first five picks were USC quarterback Caleb Williams, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Notre Dame tackle Joe Alt. That’s a realistic scenario if there are no trades in the top five, which was the case in this simulation. The decision facing Schoen here would be Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy or a stud wide receiver — Nabers or Washington’s Rome Odunze. It’s impossible to ignore the amount of work the Giants have done on quarterbacks leading up to the draft, and I believe they’ll try to trade up to land Maye. But I couldn’t get up to No. 2 pick to take Maye in this simulation. I’m not convinced the Giants love McCarthy enough to take him over one of the wide receivers. The Giants have been searching for a No. 1 wide receiver since trading Odell Beckham Jr. in 2019. Nabers and Odunze both fit that bill, with Nabers getting the edge because his ability to create separation and explosive plays is coveted by coach Brian Daboll. It would be rough not to be able to land a quarterback, but the Giants don’t need to look far into their past to see the downside of forcing a QB with the sixth pick. Nabers is a game-changing talent who would make an immediate impact for Schoen and Daboll in a pivotal season.”
There are some people who view Nabers as the top wide receiver prospect in this draft class over Marvin Harrison Jr. Malik Nabers comes from LSU and the Tigers have had a history of having really productive players at the NFL level like Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings.
A season ago with the LSU Tigers, Malik Nabers caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns, along with averaging 17.6 yards per reception. He would no doubt become the number one wide receiver in the New York Giants offense.
Along with Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton would become the second and third wide receivers on the depth chart. Jalin Hyatt, Isaiah Hodgins, and Isaiah McKenzie would then become depth pieces for the Giants wide receiver room.
The only question is then for New York is who would be throwing passes to Malik Nabers? Would the New York Giants stick with Daniel Jones again next year, turn to Drew Lock, or draft a quarterback in the later rounds? This is why the NFL Draft in 2024 is going to be so unpredictable this season.
