The New York Giants are looking to upgrade its wide receiver room and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has requested a trade after being placed on the franchise tag. There is a chance that the Giants do not draft a wide receiver sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and they draft a quarterback with that selection instead.
John Buhler of Fansided created a Mock Trade between the Giants and the Bengals that involved Higgins. New York would receive Tee Higgins and a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (237th overall) and Cincinnati would receive a 2025 first-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick (47th overall), WR Darius Slayton, and a 2026 sixth-round selection.
This is a very interesting trade for both teams. Slayton had 770 yards receiving last year and had four touchdowns with the New York Giants. He was one of the top wide receivers on the Giants last season, but Higgins would be an upgrade on the roster from Slayton.
The New York Giants Trading For Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Tee Higgins Would Be Too Expensive And They Are Better Off Drafting One
Higgins missed some games last season with the Bengals due to an injury, but he is a very talented wide receiver and can be a top wide receiver on another team. The only reason why he isn’t with Cincinnati is because of Ja’Marr Chase.
Tee Higgins last season had 656 yards receiving and five touchdowns with the Bengals. This would be a big loss for Cincinnati and a gain for the Giants, but this is a trade that New York should not do. The New York Giants already traded one of its second-round selections this season and they can’t afford to lose another one and they also can’t afford to lose its first-round pick in 2025.
New York would be better off drafting Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State, Malik Nabers from LSU, or Rome Odunze from Washington with that selection if they don’t go quarterback. This mock trade would be a total fleece job by the Bengals front office and Giants general manager Joe Schoen usually doesn’t get fleeced in trades.
If anything, New York needs to gain more draft capital and not lose it. Acquiring Higgins in a trade is a pipe dream for the New York Giants because there are other teams that will go after him.
