The New York Giants had a notable 2024 NFL Draft. They used their first pick on WR Malik Nabers from LSU. He was the sixth overall draft pick and there are high expectations for him. Today, Giants fans received some good news.
That news involves agreeing to a contract with Nabers. What are the terms of this contract? Did New York make a good deal with Nabers? Read below to find out.
New York Giants Sign Malik Nabers to 4-Year Deal
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the New York Giants have agreed to a deal with rookie WR Malik Nabers. So, what are the details of this deal?
For starters, the contract lasts for four years. New York will pay Nabers just over $29.2 million during this stretch. This comes out to about $7.3 million per year.
On top of this, the Giants are giving Nabers a notable signing bonus. This is over $18 million. Plus, the Giants will have the option to add a fifth year to this contract if this ends up working out well for them.
What This Means
So, what does this truly mean for Nabers and the Giants? On Nabers’ end, he has locked down a contract for the next four years. Plus, with the amount of money that the Giants and Nabers agreed to, the rookie wide receiver should already have enough money to be set for life. Plus, he will have an opportunity to earn much more than this throughout his career if he plays well throughout his rookie contract.
As for the Giants, they are hoping they found a star wide receiver when it comes to Nabers. Wide receiver is a position the Giants have struggled to draft well in for the better part of a decade. You can argue the last notable wide receiver the Giants have had is Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham was drafted in 2014 by the Giants and spent his first five years in the NFL with the organization. He became an overnight sensation in New York. However, he ended up being traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019.
Nabers’ Numbers
Malik Nabers had a very notable college football career with LSU. What kind of numbers did he put up to be worth this kind of money to the Giants? Well, Nabers had 3,003 receiving yards and 21 touchdown receptions in 38 games. Now, he looks to surpass those numbers in the NFL.
