The New York Giants also need to improve their defense this offseason. With the Giants playing a 3-4 scheme last season under Wink Martindale and will most likely do the same under new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, they need to pursue an outside linebacker on the opposite side of Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux last season in 17 games recorded 11.5 sacks, 50 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He is only 23 years old and is going to enter his third season with the Giants organization. Kayvon Thibodeaux was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Oregon for a reason.
He is a very talented defensive player with a lot of upside. Adding another elite pass rusher to this defense can help the New York Giants go a long way after finishing last season with a 6-11 record.
New York Giants Named as One of the Favorites to Land Pro Bowl Linebacker Danielle Hunter in NFL Free Agency
It is very possible that outside linebacker Danielle Hunter will leave the Minnesota Vikings in NFL free agency. He has spent his entire NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. Hunter was a third-round selection in 2015 and is 29 years old and also an elite pass rusher.
Last season with the Vikings, he recorded 83 tackles, 16.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two pass deflections. Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News believes that the New York Giants could target Danielle Hunter in NFL free agency.
Ed Valentine of bigblueview.com wrote about why Danielle Hunter coming to New York would make sense for them:
“He is still a tremendous pass rusher, He has a close relationship with defensive line coach Andre Patterson, He fits Shane Bowen’s scheme as a wide-9 defender.”
The New York Giants are going to have to spend money big time to land Hunter. This would be a necessary move for the franchise because they are trying to get back to the NFL Playoffs in the third season of the Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen regime.
