With talks continuing to circulate about the future of New York Giants signal-caller Daniel Jones, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has made a bold statement about the team’s 2024 outlook through his most recently updated mock draft. After having New York select LSU Tigers standout wideout Malik Nabers in his 2024 Mock Draft 1.0, he now has the NFC East club snagging a quarterback early in April’s draft. According to Jeremiah’s 2024 Mock Draft 2.0, The Giants will select LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels as their sixth overall pick.
Daniels is the third quarterback off the board in Jeremiah’s most recent mock draft. The NFL insider has USC star Caleb Williams going first overall to the Chicago Bears, while the Washington Commanders snag North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye with the following pick.
LSU Tigers QB Jayden Daniels: Heisman Trophy Winning Gunslinger
After an up-and-down three seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils, quarterback Jayden Daniels transferred to the LSU Tigers in 2022 as they ushered in Brian Kelly as their newest head coach. Daniels completed 69% of his passes during his inaugural season with LSU while throwing for 2,913 yards, 17 touchdowns, and three picks in 14 games. He also ran for 885 yards and 11 scores.
On the heels of an uber-efficient 2022 season, Daniels took a massive step forward last year. The California native dominated last season, throwing for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four picks while completing 72% of his passes. He also scampered for 1,134 yards and ten scores. Daniels led the SEC in passing touchdowns, passing efficiency rating, rushing yards per attempt, and total yards.
New York Giants: Replace Daniel Jones This Offseason Through Result of Recent Mock Draft
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes the New York Giants will select a quarterback with the sixth overall pick but could move up in the upcoming NFL draft if needed.
“As noted above, I don’t make trade projections in mock drafts this early in the process, which is why Daniels is still available at No. 6. I wouldn’t rule out the Giants trying to move up for a quarterback, but in this scenario, Daniels falls into their lap.”
The New York Giants will have punted on the Daniel Jones era by selecting LSU Tigers Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. The sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Jones played well in 2022, throwing for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns against five picks. He starred in the team’s playoff win against the Minnesota Vikings, throwing for 301 yards and two scores while adding 78 yards on the ground. The Giants rewarded the dual-threat Jones with a four-year, $160 million contract extension,
However, he stumbled this season, throwing for only two touchdowns against six picks while missing most of the year with a neck injury and a torn ACL. Drafting Daniels with their first-round pick would make the Jones extension look awful, with the organization only a year removed from giving him $92 million guaranteed.
