The New York Giants are re-signing safety, and defensive playmaker, Isaiah Simmons a league source confirms.
Simmons had one of the more consistently dominant seasons of his career in 2023, his first playing for former Giants defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale.
The New York Giants acquired Simmons in a trade with the Cardinals in August, 2023, in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
During the 2023 campaign, Simmons posted 50 total tackles with one interception that he returned for a touchdown, one sack, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Martindale frequently moved Simmons around, from safety to linebacker, and the 25-year-old proved to be a versatile weapon. According to Pro Football Focus, opposing quarterbacks posted a paltry 77.2 passer rating when targeting him last season.
Following Martindale’s departure, it will be interesting to see how new Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen deploys Simmons during the 2024 season.
A former first-round pick, Simmons has produced 308 total tackles with 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, five interceptions — with two returned for touchdowns, through his first 67 games. To date, Simmons has appeared in every game, yet to miss any time due to injury.
