New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen has a lot of decisions to make with that sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In two weeks from Thursday, that will be the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Five teams will be drafting ahead of the Giants.
Schoen spoke to the media about picking sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by saying:
“We have multiple needs. We are going into Year 3. People assume we’re going quarterback, but we have other needs. If the quarterbacks go 1-4, then we’re getting the second-best position player, not quarterback, at six, which is OK, too. That player will really help us.”
There is no doubt that he is correct that at least three quarterbacks will be drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft and all will go 1, 2, 3. The next question will be which quarterbacks are they and which other players will slip? What Schoen also has to account for is which other teams can possibly trade up and leapfrog the Giants.
The Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Chargers will be selecting four and five. They will most likely go with a wide receiver on both of those teams.
New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen Also Has The Option To Trade Down in the 2024 NFL Draft
Schoen will also have the option to trade down or trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft. Let’s say, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Malik Nabers are all off the board, he may decide to trade down. What if he doesn’t want to draft J.J. McCarthy or Rome Odunze and acquire more picks to build the roster?
The Minnesota Vikings could be a perfect trade partner since they have the 11th and 23rd picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. That would be at least one extra pick for the Giants and they also acquire some more draft capital from Minnesota the following year as well.
Odunze could still be available at 11 and so could Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers. They are in a situation where they can just take a wait-and-see approach with the 2024 NFL Draft before making a move. The New York Giants front office will have to be patient on NFL Draft Day.
With so many needs in the 2024 NFL Draft, general manager Joe Schoen knows that it isn’t going to take one pick to fix this football team. The New York Giants have a lot of scenarios in place for this draft.
