The New York Giants are sitting in an interesting position for this upcoming draft. Right now, they have the sixth overall pick. There has been some discussion amongst Giants fans about the team drafting a quarterback in the first round.
However, there is one problem. Many of the teams drafting ahead of the Giants are also potential candidates to draft a quarterback. So, the Giants may have to move up to get an elite quarterback prospect.
What would the Giants have to give up to move up a few spots in the 2024 NFL Draft? One insider has the answer.
New York Giants Have to Give Up Four Draft Picks
New York Giants reporter Art Stapleton spoke to Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network about this potential cost. According to Jeremiah, the Giants would have to give up four draft picks just to move up to the third overall pick. So, what specific draft picks would New York give up in this potential trade?
For starters, they would have to give up their sixth overall draft pick. Then, New York would have to give up both of their second round picks in this year’s draft. On top of this, the Giants would have to give up their second round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
New England Patriots Willing to Trade?
Right now, the New England Patriots hold the third overall pick. For this trade to take place, the Patriots would have to be willing to take a step back from drafting their potential franchise quarterback. This past season, the quarterback position was unstable. Mac Jones was benched multiple times and Bailey Zappe refused to rise to the occasion. For these reasons, it is hard to believe the Patriots will be willing to trade down unless they receive an offer they can’t refuse.
New York Giants Moving Forward
If the Giants do end up moving up, they will likely draft a quarterback. But what would they do if they fail to make this proposed trade? Well, the Giants do have other significant needs.
These needs include but are not limited to improving their offensive line as well as wide receiver depth. Luckily, there is no shortage of options for these positions in this upcoming draft. Now, we will have to see how this unfolds for the Giants.
