The New York Giants got a surprising season out of quarterback Daniel Jones in 2022. He was rewarded with a massive four-year contract extension. Now the pressure is on to perform up to the standards of the contract. He has the backing of the offensive line. Guard Mark Glowinski said that Jones showed some “swagger” late last season and is excited about what he can do in 2023.
New York Giants Daniel Jones Showing Swagger
Glowinski went on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast and gushed about his quarterback.
“He did a great job, especially coming off of the, you know, past couple of years where he’s had a different coach. And even with last year, he had a new coach. So he is, you can tell early on in the season, that he had a little bit of tightness in him, where he wanted to make sure he was being right all the time. And I think, you know, for something simple for me, I would just tell him to try to stay loose and have as much fun out there.
And I felt like every game that we were winning, he was opening up a little bit more and you would see a little bit more fire in him and more and more and that swagger was coming out. And there was a lot of fun that was being played last season.”
While many may doubt this, Glowinski thinks that this is just the beginning for Jones and the Giants’ offense.
Much Better Receivers This Year
While I still wouldn’t write home about the Giants’ receiver room, it is much improved from last year. Because of injuries last year, the team was on their fourth, fifth, and sixth-string receivers. The fact that head coach Brian Daboll was able to construct an offense for Jones to succeed is nothing short of a miracle. The offense should have much more reliable receivers in 2023. The only real question mark is whether running back Saquon Barkley will be in the backfield as he is still going through a contract dispute.
The New York Giants are hoping that last year was a sign of things to come for Daniel Jones. If not, they could be looking at a huge cap hit on a player that isn’t living up to expectations.
