The New York Giants were featured on the first episode of Hard Knocks on Tuesday night. This was the first of five episodes about what happened during the NFL offseason. When the Giants season ended back on Sunday, January 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the front office immediately got to work for the 2024 season.
There was a lot of dialogue going on behind the scenes about what to do in upcoming free agency and for the rest of the NFL offseason. The New York Giants had a lot of discussions about whether or not to bring back running back Saquon Barkley this offseason.
They also discussed where else they could upgrade for the upcoming 2024 NFL offseason. The New York Giants finished with a 6-11 record last season and missed the playoffs.
The New York Giants Considered Signing Kansas City Chiefs Three-Time Super Bowl Champion Chris Jones This Offseason
The Giants knew they needed to upgrade the defensive line this offseason to help out Dexter Lawrence. One of the players the New York Giants front office discusses was Kansas City Chiefs three-time Super Bowl Champion Chris Jones.
Last season with Kansas City, he recorded 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and four pass deflections. Chris Jones would get double-teamed often with the Chiefs, but he always kept making plays when it mattered the most for them.

This is what went on behind the scenes when talking about Chris Jones. The New York Giants also considered Dexter Lawrence’s best friend Christian Wilkins from Clemson as well this offseason.
There was one point last offseason when it appeared as if Chris Jones was going to leave the Kansas City Chiefs and give him a new contract, but he decided to stay with Kansas City. He is 30 years old and will see what kind of production he can do for the Chiefs still.
Imagine if the New York Giants did sign Chris Jones this off-season. Opposing offensive lines would have had potential nightmares of trying to block both Jones and Dexter Lawrence. They may not have been able to double-team either of them and play 1-on-1.
Some New York Giants fans responded on Twitter about that fantasy:
Chris Jones and Dex would have been an absolute cheat code. Like it actually wouldn’t have been fair

If the Giants would’ve signed Chris Jones to pair with Dexter Lawrence
It would’ve been the best DT duo in NFL history.
Damn.

– glad we got that friend discount from Carolina. Trade makes more sense now
– Chris Jones/Dex pairing would have been chaos
– I want Danny Dimes to succeed so badly it hurts (and Giants need him to)
– John Mara should not be involved in any player decisions whatsoever

After the New York Giants couldn’t get Chris Jones, they decided to pivot to trade for Brian Bruns from the Carolina Panthers. The core of Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence for this franchise on defense will be just fine moving forward.
