The NFL community lost a legend on and off the field of the New York Giants on Wednesday. The former Pro Bowler and Giants star Greg Larson passed away at the age of 84. He reportedly had passed with his wife by his side.
The owner of the Giants, John Mara, had incredible praise for Larson when he spoke of him back in June. Larson played in 179 games over his career with the Giants playing from 1961-1973.
“He was our leader, our captain, one of the most popular players that we had,” Giants president John Mara said. “Just a great all-around individual. He really epitomized what it meant to be a Giant in that era.”

“#53Larson wore #53 for 13 years. #53Carson wore #53 for 13 years in his HOF career. Very Impressive ☝️,” one fan added.
“Aw, man…❤🙏,” one fan added.
Larson had an unfortunate end to his career when he had to retire in 1974 due to injuries he suffered in his career to his knee. He had said that if not for the injuries he would’ve kept playing for as long as he could.
“If I hadn’t had surgery,” he told The New York Times, “I definitely wouldn’t have given retirement a thought and would have come back. But the leg wasn’t responding the way I would like, and I said last year if I ever had another operation, that would be it.”
From all of us here at Gridiron, we send our thoughts and prayers to the Larson family and the New York Giants community during this tough time.
