The New York Giants entered this offseason facing a lot of uncertainty. After making the divisional round of the playoffs in the 2022-23 NFL season, the Giants missed the playoffs entirely this past season. You would think that would make players start to question the leadership in the organization. However, the NFLPA report cards show quite the contrary.
Brian Daboll Gets A- Grade
Brian Daboll was one of the best-performing categories for the New York Giants. He received an A- grade by the NFLPA for his performance as a head coach this past season. Considering there was a lot of reported drama among the coaching staff this past season, this is a very notable grade. On top of this, it may confirm to Giants fans why the organization chose to stick with Daboll over defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
Training Staff Also Gets A- Grade
Again, members of the coaching staff may have been bickering, but players did not seem to have a problem with the staff. The training staff was the only other Giants category to receive an A- grade or higher. It has to leave players and fans optimistic about the staff heading into 2024.
Overall Good Grades
Considering there were grades as low as F in these categories, the Giants made out well on these report cards. New York did not have a lower than a C grade in any category. A bright spot here is that Giants owner John Mara received a B+ grade from the players. Fans can point to that as another sign that the Giants have the right leadership to turn this around in 2024.
New York Giants Moving Forward
As mentioned above, Giants fans should be encouraged by the grades players give every aspect of the organization. Overall, the Giants ranked eighth of the 32 NFL teams in report cards. There was a very good balance of grades here, with leadership and staff standing out.
Two things make this more remarkable. The first is that from the outside, leadership did not appear this secure from the Giants. Second, MetLife Stadium has a notorious reputation when it comes to its field turf. It has been voted by the players as the worst field to play on in the NFL. Yet, the Giants got good grades across the board. Now, we will have to see how far these grades carry the Giants in 2024.
