New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamara wants to get paid. So much so, that the five-time Pro Bowl running back has decided to abandon his squad during their recently-concluded minicamp to make a point.
While Kamara remains one of the most important players on the roster entering the new season, the 28-year-old has now been warned about potentially biting off more than he can chew.
New Orleans Saints Urged to Trade Alvin Kamara
You can’t really blame Kamara for wanting to get the money he feels he deserves. After all, holdouts have been commonplace in the NFL of late, and most of the time, this major risk pays off for the players. Sometimes, though, it does not.
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report believes that the Saints should call Kamara’s bluff by exploring the trade market for the former offensive Rookie of the Year:
“Kamara left mandatory minicamp early over a contract dispute as he’s reportedly looking to re-work his deal for more guaranteed money next season. The problem is the running back has missed several games over the last few years and isn’t the same player he once was while approaching 30 years old.
“New Orleans should explore the five-time Pro Bowler’s trade market and see what it can get for him as it’s looking like his tenure in The Big Easy is coming to a close soon anyway,” Holder wrote.
That’s tough to hear for an established star like Kamara, who is just two years removed from five straight Pro Bowl appearances. Then again, such is the harsh reality of life in the NFL, and it now appears that it’s very much possible that his time in New Orleans is coming to an end.
