“People Aren’t Ready To Talk”: Aaron Rodgers Speaks On NFL Being Mum On Social Issues

Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the New York Jets, has been pretty vocal on many topics that many other top players do not talk about. In an interview with Michele Tafoya in 2018, Rodgers spoke about the deep issues that continue to plague the NFL. Rodgers’ openness and willingness to talk about otherwise controversial topics, was appreciated by fans and NFL analysts.

According to Rodgers, people in the NFL are not ready to speak out about sensitive topics like racial issues, social inequality and the like. The quarterback also remarked that this fact troubled and disappointed him terribly.

“The issue is one that’s uncomfortable for a lot of people. And to me, that’s what it’s all about: People aren’t ready to talk about race relations, social inequality, social injustice — the real issues. And that’s disappointing.” Rodgers said to Michele Tafoya of Artful Living.

Aaron Rodgers was definitely not the only NFL player who has spoken up about sensitive issues. Perhaps the most popular such player was Colin Kaepernick who took a strong stance against racial issues in the country by a simple act of kneeling during the national anthem played before every game.

However, because of his action, Kaepernick’s career in the NFL was brought to a close by those who did not agree with him. Kaepernick failed to make a return to the league despite him signing up for free agency in 2016 after none of the teams showed any interest in him.

Aaron Rodgers Says Different Issues On Religion Caused Rift In Family

Aaron Rodgers’ docu-series, ‘Enigma’ recently released with the quarterback shedding light on many lesser known areas of his life. An interesting topic which was covered in the series was Rodgers’ views about religion. The quarterback, in fact, spoke out against organized religion back in 2022, for which he was heavily criticized. Many people were taken aback by his comments, considering the fact that Rodgers was raised as a traditional Christian by his family.

According to Rodgers, his views on religion and spirituality changed after he started following Rob Bell, who is the former pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church. Rodgers felt that Bell’s views about the Bible and Christianity in general were more viable since they leaned into a more lenient view, rather than looking at everything in black-and-white.

However, this new belief system started changing the dynamics of Rodgers’ family, who felt ‘dismayed’. While his family might have been distressed because of his views, Rodgers still has great love for them, and hopes for reconciliation.
