Last season, Paulson Adebo had a strong showing as compared to his first two years in the NFL. His solid performance has placed the New Orleans Saints cornerback in a position to land a big contract when free agency comes around in 2025.
Adebo is positioning himself for a significant contract extension with the New Orleans Saints as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. After demonstrating exceptional skill and becoming a key player in the Saints’ secondary, his performance in 2023 established him as a standout.
During that period, he intercepted a team-high four passes and recorded a remarkable 18 pass breakups, ranking third in the NFL. As a result, the cornerback made a good impression on the franchise and Saints fans last season.
Adebo’s journey began with a strong rookie season in 2021, where he showcased his potential by tying for the team lead in interceptions. Despite facing challenges, including an ankle injury in 2022 that limited his effectiveness, he bounced back in 2023, proving he can handle top receivers and maintain a low completion rate against him.
New Orleans Saints’ Paulson Adebo Projected to Receive $78 Million Contract in 2025 Free Agency
Similar to New York Jets’ Haason Reddick and Los Angeles Chargers’ Asante Samuel Jr., Adebo is projected to land a new deal in free agency next year. David Kenyon explained more in his NFL analysis for Bleacher Report.
“However, it’s going to take a few things for Adebo to fully maximize his market value in 2023. For one, he’ll have to stay healthy after missing two games in 2023 with a hamstring injury and part of this year’s camp with a groin injury.
Adebo will also have to prove that his strong campaign last season was no fluke. He was far less dependable in 2022, allowing an opposing passer rating of 119.6 in coverage.
It wouldn’t hurt for the Saints to be relevant in the playoff race either. New Orleans won nine games last season, and if Adebo has a big hand in getting the Saints to the playoffs, he should cash in with one of the league’s top cornerback contracts.
Projected Contract Value: Four Years, $78 Million,” Kenyon wrote.
At just 25 years old, Adebo has the agility and physicality that make him a perfect fit for the Saints’ aggressive man coverage scheme. His ability to read plays and break up passes has made him a vital asset on defense. With Marshon Lattimore also in the mix, the Saints have a formidable cornerback duo, but they face a decision about Lattimore’s future due to his escalating cap hit.
If Adebo continues to perform at this high level, he could secure a lucrative contract, solidifying his place among the league’s elite cornerbacks. If Bleacher Report’s NFL analysis is to be believed, that can just happen in free agency next year.
