Even though he’s slated to become a free agent next year, Haason Reddick has made it clear in the past that he wants out from the New York Jets. In any case, the pass-rusher will still command some interest when free agency occurs in 2025.
Reddick has reportedly requested a trade from the Jets amid his ongoing contract holdout. Acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, he is currently holding out of training camp due to dissatisfaction with his contract, which has just one year remaining.
Initially, the Jets were aware that Reddick’s contract needed to be addressed before acquiring him, but they proceeded with the trade without finalizing a deal. General manager Joe Douglas stated that the team does not plan to trade the linebacker despite his request. The situation is complicated, as he is seeking a new contract worth approximately $25 million annually, similar to what Danielle Hunter received from the Texans. He is set to earn $14.25 million in base salary for the upcoming season.
Reddick’s holdout has already resulted in fines exceeding $1 million, raising further concerns about his future with the Jets. Despite these challenges, the linebacker is coming off two consecutive Pro Bowl seasons, having recorded 11 sacks last year.
New York Jets’ Haason Reddick Projected To Get $53 Million Contract in 2025 Free Agency
Although a trade hasn’t occurred yet, Reddick remains a free agent teams will be looking into when 2025 rolls around. According to an NFL analysis by David Kenyon for Bleacher Report, the pass-rusher is projected to get a new contract during free agency next year.
“Reddick’s value will depend heavily on whether he actually plays in 2024 and for whom. He recorded 27 sacks over the past two seasons and has had four straight years of double-digit sack production.
While Reddick will turn 30 in September, he should still command a contract similar to the two-year, $49 million contract Danielle Hunter received this offseason—assuming he plays and plays well.
Projected Contract Value: Two Years, $53 Million,” Kenyon wrote.
Reddick, who has missed all offseason activities and accrued significant fines, is looking for a contract extension. Despite his absence, Jets head coach Robert Saleh expressed confidence in the team’s defensive lineup and hinted that his participation in the upcoming game remains a possibility.
His ability to rush the passer will be a significant asset for whichever team he plays for in 2024, whether it remains the Jets or another franchise. As the season approaches, the Jets face uncertainty regarding his status and their Super Bowl ambitions. In any case, teams interested in his service will have to shell out a new contract to secure Reddick’s services.
