The New Orleans Saints have been busy today as this is now the third time today where they have restructured one of their stars contracts in order to meet with the NFL’s compliance before the start of the league’s new year. The Saints restructured both defensive end Cam Jordan and running back Alvin Kamara on Monday to meet those requirements.

According to a league source, cornerback Marshon Lattimore agreed on a contract restructure which should free up as much as $10,065,000 by converting most of his $14.5 million base salary into a new signing bonus. With the move, New Orleans should be inching closer to being complaint with the 2023 salary cap.

Marshon Lattimore has agreed to restructure his contract, per source. More cap space on the way.

Lattimore has spent six seasons with the Saints and the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year has had a stellar career in New Orleans. During the 2022 season, Lattimore appeared in seven games, with seven of them being starts. He registered 29 total tackles (20 solo), four passes defended, one sack and four interceptions.

Lattimore has been one of the most consistent cornerbacks in the NFL during his career and he continues to be elite. An injury kept him off the field for most of the 2022 season, but he was still able to show he was one of the top ten cornerbacks in the league. He only appeared in seven games throughout the season as he suffered a lacerated kidney and a rib injury in week five against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Ohio State product was able to return to the field in week 17’s contest against the Philadelphia Eagles and he was able to make a game-changing interception that resulted in a touchdown. His performance against the Eagles was his best of the year as he recorded a 37.5 passer rating when targeted. Lattimore was able to provide a spark for the Saints defense down the stretch.

There are positive signs when Lattimore went down with an injury this season as rookie cornerback, Alontae Taylor, stepped up while Lattimore was sidelined. The dynamic duo of Lattimore and Taylor can be one of the best in the NFL head into the 2023 season. He has been able to serve a vital role for the Saints defense and continues to be one of the leaders in the secondary. If Lattimore is able to stay healthy, he will be due for a big year in 2023 and that will be needed if New Orleans wants to make it back to the playoffs.
