The New Orleans Saints just finished a disappointing 2023-24 NFL season. Despite a blowout victory over the Atlanta Falcons yesterday, the Saints still fell just short of the playoffs. This started speculation as to whether Saints head coach Dennis Allen would retain his job. Now, he has commented on this subject.
Dennis Allen Thinks He Stays
Ian Rapoport shared an answer that Allen gave to one interview question. The question was if Allen expected to be back with the Saints in 2024. Here is what Allen had to say:
“That is my expectation, yes.” -Dennis Allen
In other words, Allen expects to be back with New Orleans in 2024. However, one event yesterday caused some speculation.
New Orleans Saints Week 18 Controversy
The New Orleans Saints were beating the Atlanta Falcons handily yesterday. Up 41-17, the Saints were expected to go into victory formation to close out the game. However, Saints players had other ideas.
Jameis Winston and company ignored Dennis Allen here and faked the victory formation. As a result, they scored a meaningless touchdown and ran up the score. Former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith did not appreciate that and cursed out Allen after the game.
Allen did not seem to approve of that stunt. He said as such after the game. Can Allen control his players if he is brought back in 2024? We will have to wait and see.
