The New England Patriots have made some big moves so far in the 2024 off-season. Adding potential game changers in the Draft was the top priority and we are starting to see a difference on the practice field. Rookie wide receivers Javon Baker and Ja’Lynn Polk, have been in the headlines recently. It has been reported by multiple people that the two rookies have been turning heads on almost every play. This is great news for Patriots fans, but the question remains, how will all the new players look against a different team? New England has scheduled a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 13th, and this could give fans quite the inside look at the 2024 Patriots.
The Philadelphia Eagles are a very talented team on both sides of the ball, which will be a great test for the revamped Patriots roster. Specifically for the offense, which was difficult to watch in 2023. Going up against a loaded Eagles defense in this joint practice will give the new receivers a chance to try and get a feel for the offense, as well as getting Drake Maye some real reps against an elite defense. If Maye shows some serious flashes of potential against the Eagles, he could make a real push for the starting job. Although, Philadelphia has a monster defensive line, and with the struggling New England offensive line, we could see Maye struggle to even get a pass off.
A great battle to watch will be the Patriots rookie receivers going up against a fairly loaded secondary. After double dipping in the 2024 Draft at defensive back, the Eagles have a rejuvenated defense alongside veteran cornerback Darius Slay. If Baker and Polk, can consistently get open and make plays in this practice, we may see the emergence of a new dynamic duo in Foxborough. This will give Drake Maye, two weapons to grow and develop with over the next few years, which should have fans more excited about the future than they have been in a long time.
How will the Patriots defense hold up against a loaded Eagles offense?
New England’s defense has never really been a concern or issue. The defense was very good in 2023, and they have just about every player returning for the 2024 season. They are loaded with talent, specifically at the corner position. It will be incredibly fun to watch cornerback Christian Gonzalez go head to head with Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. Defense is where the Patriots shine, and being able to see them matchup with an elite offense should get the fans in attendance all fired up. If New England can lock down Philadelphia’s offense, it will be a good prediction into how well they will perform during the season. Overall, August 13th will be a huge day for New England, and could give fans a look into the potential of their favorite team heading into the season.
