The New England Patriots quarterback room at the moment is far from encouraging. Mac Jones just doesn’t look like a capable starter for the team anymore after back-to-back seasons of horrible play under center.
With the No. 3 pick at the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pats can address their QB quandary by selecting one of the top signal-callers of this year’s class. However, both teams in front of them in the draft order are also QB-needy franchises, with the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders also expected to use their picks on gunslingers.
The New England Patriots Can Propose A Trade For The Chicago Bears’ No. 1 Pick
With that in mind, should the New England Patriots go for it and convince the Bears to give up that No. 1 pick via a trade? Field Yates of ESPN made a trade scenario in which the Pats send three picks for Chicago’s right to select first overall.
Yates’ trade package: No. 3 pick, 2024 second-round pick (No. 34), 2025 first-round pick
In the 2021 draft, the Patriots stayed patient and landed Mac Jones as the fifth quarterback off the board. But after two straight lackluster seasons from Jones, it’s time for a reset. Much like the Washington offer, this would have to be motivated by New England not wanting to settle for the class’ QB3.
Caleb Williams of the USC Trojans, Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels, and Jayden Daniels of the LSU Tigers are the consensus top three QB prospects for the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams is widely expected to go No. 1 overall, which would leave the Pats with either Maye or Daniels. It is a fluid situation for the No. 2 and No. 3 picks. If the New England Patriots want uncertainty out of the way, the solution is to push considerable chips to the center of the table with the hopes that the Bears would surrender that No. 1 pick.
