It may still seem strange for some, but seeing Bill Belichick out of a job after the New England Patriots let him go at the end of the 2023 season is a sight that people must get used to. The team hopes that they can go back to their glory days with Jerod Mayo taking over the shot-calling from the sidelines.

Fans who are familiar with the situation of the divorce between their team and their winningest coach know that there’s plenty of nuance behind the events that transpired during the post-Tom Brady era.
However, it seems like the team’s owner is trying to repair some of their reputation after news detailing their messy separation came to light.
New England Patriots’ Robert Kraft recognizes Bill Belichick as ‘special’
Robert Kraft has publicly come out to express his best wishes to Bill Belichick, recognizing his importance in the New England dynasty that lasted for more than 20 years.

New York Post’s Bryan Fonseca wrote about the short but sweet message the long-time owner had for the man who led Foxborough to years of NFL dominance.
“Well, he’s pretty special,” Kraft said of Belichick to Fox News. “We were lucky to have him for a quarter of a century. We only wish him well.”
Andrew Crane provided a supplemental piece that detailed Belichick’s gratefulness for the organization he called home:
“For me, this is a day of gratitude and celebration,” Belichick said Thursday. “We had a vision of building a winner, building a championship football team here. And it’s exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations — the amount of success we were able to achieve together through a lot of hard work and the contributions of so many people.
Belichick and Kraft were at odds for much of the post-Brady era
Crane also wrote what many fans knew all along: Robert Kraft is blaming Bill Belichick for letting Tom Brady leave when he was still able to win one more Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
“Bill had told me he couldn’t play anymore,” Kraft reportedly said following the 2020 Super Bowl, “and then he goes out and wins the f–king Super Bowl.”
He also reported that Kraft was always looking to pin the Patriots’ shortcomings on Belichick at every possible moment.

It will be interesting to see where Belichick ends up in 2024, but fans are now fully aware of where the team’s ownership group stands on the Tom vs. Bill narrative.
