REPORT: New England Patriots Interviewing Philadelphia Eagles Director Of Scouting For Ambiguous ‘Lead Personnel Role’, Looking To Make 1st External Front Office Hire Of The Post Bill Belichick Era

After 20 years of Bill Belichick as de facto General Manager and primary executive decision maker, the New England Patriots just finished their first NFL draft with a new sheriff in town, Eliot Wolf.

Well, not quite.

Whilst Wolf is the de facto GM of the Patriots – a term that is quickly becoming synonymous with the New England front office organizational structure, the Patriots are looking to, over an unclear timeline that could range from a few weeks to the end of the 2024 regular season, all the way in January 2025, appoint a full time general manager to fill Belichick’s hefty shoes.

The New England Patriots Looking For A New Personnel Lead

Although Eliot Wolf has, by no means, been excluded from the running to be named permanent GM of the New England Patriots, the team has to conduct a full interview process with a range of external candidates in order to be complaint with the Rooney Rule.

Whilst they have not stated that this ‘lead personnel’ job would be the general manager of the team, it seems likely that the role would be focused in having a big say in the moves of the 6 x Super Bowl winning franchise, and would work next to, or above, Wolf.

And it seems like they have their very first candidate to interview, per Adam Schefter.

Who Is The Eagles’ Director of Scouting, Brandon Hunt?

Eagles Vice President Howie Roseman gives a thumbs-up before the Eagles play the Broncos in Denver, Colo. on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021.

Brandon Hunt spent the past two years with the Eagles as director of scouting, having previously been stationed with state rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, as pro scouting coordinator for 12 years prior.

Hunt oversaw the scouting for the past two drafts for the Philadelphia Eagles, where they managed to bring in 2 of many people’s top 3 defensive backs in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

He also played a key part in the Eagles’ “Georgia Overhaul” on defense, where they drafted very impressive National Championship winning duo, Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, alongside fellow Bulldogs Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean and Kelee Ringo.

This is just the beginning, so we are far from being able to say whether Hunt or anyone else will be appointed as GM, or if they will even start before the season opener all the way in September. All we do know is that there are major changes in the works for the New England Patriots as they rebuild with new rookie quarterback, Drake Maye.
