Cam Newton, the ex quarterback of the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, has been out of the league for some time now, and cant stop trying to be relevant. Cam, now at the age of 34 years old, hasn’t played a snap in quite some time, while the NFL is seeing guys like Joe Flacco get called from his couch to come play for the Cleveland Browns. (He’s ben doing quite well so far.) Cam must feel left out as many quarterbacks much older than him have been given chances to play over and over and yet he’s still on the couch.
Cam made headlines earlier in the week when he came after notable quarterback; Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, and Tua Tagovailoa. Cam was quoted in a Yahoo Sports article saying:
“But Brock [Purdy], they’re [49ers] not winning because of him. He’s managing the game,” Newton said. “And if we were to put that in its own right as ‘game managers,’ Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa and Jared Goff. And, really, Dak Prescott. These are game managers; they are not difference makers …”
Cam had an incredible MVP year once in his career and could be argued to be the best rushing quarterback in the NFL ever. However these comments coming from Cam became quite controversial as many of the NFL fanbase took this as just a salty ex player wishing he could get another chance.
Yesterday he got back on his podcast to try and fix some of the things he said and give a better explanation as to what he meant when he used the word, “game manager.” He brought on former New England Patriot teammate, Julian Edelman to talk more about what a game manager is versus and game changer. He went on to try and clarify that game manager is not a bad thing but simply the way a quarterback plays.
Ex New England Patriot Cam Newton Calls Tom Brady A Game Manager
Tom Brady, simple known as the greatest ever in football, does not need any introduction. Cam replaced Brady on the Patriots and quickly got benched for a rookie Mac Jones. Yesterday, Cam went on his podcast with Julian and called Brady a game manager that wins games. Cam must have felt that going after potential MVP candidates Dak and Brock wasn’t enough, he then had to come after Peyton Manning and Brady, trying to give them a back handed compliment. Cam was quotes saying:
“Brady and Manning were elite game managers”
Possibly the two best quarterbacks of all time, they are the farthest thing from just game managers. These men were game changes in the locker room and game changers throughout the careers who also were elite at managing a game and many different scenarios.
Cam’s comments were received again as an ex player who thinks he still has tons left in the tank but isn’t being given an opportunity while other “game managers” are getting called up from the couches to come play. While every ex player and even current players have been starting up podcasts, there is a clear difference between guys trying to give good takes on the sport versus guys that want their name to stay relevant.
Cam’s career is nothing to sniff at and he was certainty called a game changing quarterback when he played, although a game changer that could either way in helping hi steam win or helping his team lose. Cam is still just 34 years of age and may get an opportunity again at some point to play but at the moment it seems the only NFL action and relevance he will get is calling out players of the present and past on his podcast.
“Cam Newton, you had a worse career than Dak Prescott.”
