Bill Belichick isn’t letting the talks about his coaching future with the New England Patriots affect him in any way. He’s used to it, and he knows how to handle it.
Speaking on The Greg Hill Show on Tuesday, Belichick was asked why he doesn’t entertain the questions about his future with the Patriots. It has been such a hot topic over the past couple of months, especially amid another disappointing campaign for the team.
Almost every gameweek, Belichick has found himself in rumors about the Patriots potentially firing him, and other teams interested in his services if New England were to really part ways with him. Time and time again, though, the six-time Super Bowl winner has remained mum.
Such approach on his job is something that Belichick has developed over the years in his job. He makes sure he doesn’t go too high or too low. He goes through his day with consistency, no matter what the issue or whatever issue he faces.
“Whatever success I have had, I’ve tried to go about my job the same way every week — win, lose, good years, bad years, whatever they are,” Belichick shared, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.
“Each week, get ready to go for that week, do the best you can to help your team win, and after that game move on to the next one. And at the end of the season, that’s the end of the season. But on a week-to-week basis, I don’t want to spend time, or get caught up in what happened five years ago, or what’s going to happen 2 years from now, and a bunch of other random stuff.”
In real Bill Belichick fashion, he highlighted that his current focus for now is gearing up for Week 18 against the New York Jets and finishing the season. He also emphasized his commitment to the New England Patriots, regardless of what next season holds for him.
“I’m committed to the team that I’m coaching right now, the players that are here. They deserve my best every day and that’s what I’m going to give them,” Belichick added.
Sure enough, it’s unlikely anyone will get an answer from Belichick with regards to his coaching plans. It’s not that he doesn’t know or he doesn’t want to answer them. He simply doesn’t care about it at this point.
What Will the New England Patriots Do With Bill Belichick?
As mentioned, there have been plenty of rumors surrounding Bill Belichick and what the New England Patriots will do moving forward.
There has been major buzz that the Patriots will move on from him after the Patriots tallied just a 4-12 record through Week 17. Nonetheless, a recent report noted that Robert Kraft might not actually fire him, as he wants to handle his exit better.
Belichick could end up requesting for a trade away from the team, or the Patriots could give him a different position in the organization.
Whatever the case, however, no decision has been made yet on his future. The general expectation is the Patriots will take their time in the offseason and assess their options before making a move.
