The Kansas City Chiefs badly need wide receiver help. Other than Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice, no receiver has more than 27 catches or 460 yards.
Fortunately, the latest mock draft from CBS Sports has the team adding to the receiver room. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has the Chiefs selecting Florida State star receiver Keon Coleman with the No. 28 pick.
Does Keon Coleman fit with the Chiefs?
Regarding the fit of Coleman, Edwards said the following:
Kansas City has not invested in the wide receiver room. Its approach has been making trades and signing players with one foot or both feet out the door of their prior team. Keon Coleman and Rashee Rice is a good way to start re-shaping the narrative.
Coleman is a big-bodied receiver, standing at 6’4″ and weighing 216 pounds. The WR would give Patrick Mahomes a big target that can come down with contested catches.
Coleman was extremely productive in college
In Coleman’s lone season at Florida State, the receiver came down with 50 catches for 658 yards and 11 TDs. Coleman averaged 13.2 yards per catch and was a master at coming down with contested balls.
Before heading to Tallahassee, the receiver spent 2 seasons with the Michigan State Spartans. Over that time, Coleman collected 65 catches for 848 yards and 8 TDs.
Kansas City Chiefs badly need receiver help
The Kansas City Chiefs have tried out various receivers in 2023 and none have produced save for the rookie Rice. Justin Watson is the second most productive receiver and he has 27 catches for 460 yards and 3 TDs. Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Richie James, Justyn Ross, and Mecole Hardman are other options on the roster who have not contributed much in 2023.
