The Mississippi State Bulldogs football team had a not-so-thankful Thanksgiving Day in 2023. They fell to their rival Ole Miss 17-7 in the Egg Bowl, dropped out of bowl game consideration, and per On3, star quarterback Will Rogers has entered the transfer portal.

Rogers will presumably play his fifth and final college season in 2024. He immediately becomes one of the top transfer prospects within the portal.
Mississippi State Bulldogs QB Will Rogers: Leaving Starksville as Program Leader
Will Rogers leaves Mississippi State after four seasons, 43 games, and a bevy of passing touchdowns and yards. Rogers played alongside fellow gunslinger K.J. Costello as a freshman in 2020, throwing for 1,976 yards and 11 scores against seven interceptions. He took over as the full-time starter in 2021, throwing for 4,739 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine picks. His passing yards total was the third-highest in the NCAA that season. Rogers again shined as a junior, throwing another 35 touchdowns for nearly 4,000 yards. However, injuries took their toll on the six-foot-two signal-caller this season, throwing just 12 touchdowns with four picks in eight games.
Rogers will finish his MSU football career as the program leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and pass completions. The only passing record that Rogers does not hold is passing yards in a single game, never eclipsing the totals produced by Costello and current NFL star Dak Prescott.
Mississippi State: QB Plans without Rogers
The Mississippi State Bulldogs played two other quarterbacks this season, Mike Wright and Chris Parson. Wright played in 12 games this season, mainly as a rusher, taking 71 carries for 324 yards and three scores. He completed 48 of 85 attempts for 453 yards and three scores. He played his first three seasons at Vanderbilt, throwing 21 touchdowns against 11 picks while rushing for seven scores. Meanwhile, a freshman, Parson, went 11-of-26 for 103 yards and three picks. Parson signed as a three-star prospect in the class of 2023.
Additionally, MSU signed QB Josh Flowers for the upcoming season. Per On3, he is a three-star prospect from Mobile, Alabama. Redshirt sophomores Jake Weir and Asher Morgan, alongside freshman Vic Sutton, are also on the roster. The trio have never thrown a pass for the Bulldogs.
