Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with former Green Bay Packer Aaron Jones.
Dianna Russini reported early Tuesday morning that star running back Aaron Jones is set to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. The Green Bay Packers cut Aaron Jones in a surprise move after signing Josh Jacobs on the first day of NFL Free Agency (the legal tampering period).

Aaron Jones has played his entire seven-year career with the Green Bay Packers. It was not a popular move to release Aaron Jones yesterday, but Jones wasted no time joining a divisional rival.
Minnesota Vikings New RB
The Minnesota Vikings have been active in free agency, trying to sign Kirk Cousins, moving their resources to Sam Darnold on a one-year deal, and now having a new star running back in Aaron Jones.
Jones has been consistent in his seven-year career; the only issue has been injuries. In any season, he has played over 13 games and has had over 1,000 combined yards.

According to Robin Adams of Gridiron Heroics, “Unfortunately, they missed running back Dalvin Cook more than they could have thought they would. Minnesota had the fourth-worst rushing offense in the NFL, averaging 91.4 rushing yards per game in 2023. Alexander Mattison had 700 rushing yards but averaged just 3.9 yards per carry. He also did not score a single rushing touchdown last season.”
Aaron Jones and Vikings fans are hopeful that Jones can fill the void Cook left behind.
Aaron Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal worth about seven million dollars.

Packers Move on From Jones
A move that shocked the NFL was the impending signing of Josh Jacobs. Quickly after they agreed to terms with Jacobs, Aaron Jones was released.

According to Pro Football Talk, “Per a source with knowledge of the deal, the contract has a $12.5 million signing bonus and no other guaranteed payments.
His 2024 base salary of $1.2 million is guaranteed as a practical matter, pushing the first-year haul to $13.7 million. He also has a $600,000 offseason workout bonus and up to $500,000 per-game active roster bonuses. That’s up to $14.8 million for one year. After that, it’s up to the Packers.”
Both running backs are on anticipated one-year deals. Jacobs will cost the Packers about double what Jones signed for. In 2024, it will be a competition to see who is worth the money.
