Along with Isaiah Hazel, Khyree Jackson was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders. Lytton was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Jackson was in the passenger seat of a Dodge Charger driven by Hazel when an Infiniti Q50 hit their car. The Infiniti driver, who was attempting to change lanes at a high speed, ran the Charger off the road and into multiple tree stumps. The driver of the Infiniti and her two passengers remained unharmed.
Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident, but the investigation is still “active and ongoing,” according to the Maryland Department of State Police.
Minnesota Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell recalls the phone call informing him of Khyree Jackson’s death
Nearly two weeks after the incident, O’Connell opened up about what it was like upon hearing the news of the death of a recently drafted player.
In an article from ESPN, the Vikings released a statement about the death of Jackson when it happened, but O’Connell’s retelling of the story shows the connection the two had built during a short summer.
“We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident,” the Vikings said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident.”
