The end of the 2024 regular season could not have come at a better time for the San Francisco 49ers. After being officially eliminated from the postseason, the 49ers are hoping for a brand new start in 2025. The road back to the Super Bowl was unkind for the defending NFC Champions, a team marred by a variety of injuries that ultimately derailed a once promising season. You can nitpick all you want in what went wrong for San Francisco, but everything circles back to the injury issues. The injury bug victimized multiple stars across the entire roster. Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Dre Greenlaw, Nick Bosa, Talanoa Hufanga, among others, have all been hit with brutal injuries this season. After everything that has happened, what do the 49ers have to look forward to in 2025?

    Remaining Optimistic

Although the 2024 campaign hasn’t exactly been the result the 49ers were looking for, there is much to be excited about in 2025. For one, the 49ers’ roster will have a chance to recover with a lengthy offseason. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch strongly believe that the long rest will help their team get back to what they once were. Lynch and Shanahan also emphasied getting back to what their team once was. In order to that, the 49ers need to get back to the drawing board and rediscover what made them great. Getting back to the basics is one thing, doing it with a healthy roster is another. Lets face it,  playing in the NFL against the best football players in the world, you need all your horses in order to compete in the race. This 49er team right now is missing a bunch of players that got them to the big dance last year. If San Francisco comes back healthy in 2025, there’s no reason the 49ers can’t be a team to be reckoned with once more.

    Softer Schedule In 2025?

With a fourth place finish secure in the NFC West, the 49ers will be benefit from a much easier schedule next year. On paper at least. The 49ers will face teams like the Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants. Anything can happen next season of course, but based off the results this year, the 49ers should handle business with their schedule next year. Even playing their NFC West opponents twice will be no problem for a healthy 49ers team. When everything is clicking, there aren’t many teams in the NFL more feared than the San Francisco 49ers. Maybe not playing the Chiefs and Bills in the regular season will give the 49ers a little bit of a breather. Obviously the 49ers want to play against the best, but I’m sure they would rather have a healthy roster.

    Help Wanted

In order to revamp their roster, the 49ers are hoping to find the help they need in the 2025 NFL Draft. One area that has been a glaring issue has been the struggles on both the offensive and defensive lines. Dominick Puni has been an absolute beast at right guard all season long for San Francisco. The problem is, the other positions across the offensive line have struggled. Trent Williams being hurt  has been a huge blow for the unit, who has failed to protect quarterback Brock Purdy many games this season. Building up the offensive line will be one of the biggest priorities for the 49ers front office this offseason.

On the defensive line, Nick Bosa has been dealing with a few injuries, and Javon Hargrave is already out for the season. They need to find a guy similiar to Arik Armstead, who is solely missed by the way, that can take on a couple lineman and let their talented linebackers run wild. With so much going wrong in 2024, there are many things to look forward to in 2025.

Once the 49ers get back to what made them great, there will be no stopping them.
