The Minnesota Vikings and Justin Jefferson are looking to get back on track this week as they take on the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. After winning five straight, the Vikings lost a heartbreaker to the Denver Broncos last weekend. The loss dropped the Vikings to 6-5 on the year and clinging to their Wild Card playoff spot.
Justin Jefferson has been out for. On October 8th, Jefferson sustained a right hamstring injury. He hasn’t played since even though the Vikings opened up his return window (from IR) on November 8th. Heading into their Monday Night matchup with the Chicago Bears, the Vikings released some fairly unexpectedly news regarding Jefferson.
The Minnesota Vikings Are Likely To Be Without Star Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson On Monday Night Football Against The Chicago Bears
According to sources at ESPN:
Despite Justin Jefferson being listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against Chicago, the Minnesota Vikings will exercise caution with their standout wide receiver Monday night and he is considered unlikely to play, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Minnesota has a bye next week and the belief is that Jefferson is expected to be ready post bye for the Dec. 10 game at Las Vegas, the source says.
The hamstring injury has caused Jefferson to miss games for the first time in his prolific four-year career. The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year had 36 catches, 571 yards and three touchdowns on 53 targets in the first five weeks.
Jefferson said Friday that sitting out against the Bears is “definitely not something I want to do” but added that being patient “comes with the game, it comes with trying to be healthy, trying to be 100 percent and [following] the safe route.”
When Will Jefferson Come Back?
Jefferson may give it one more game and be back for Week 14 against the Raiders with the Vikings’ bye coming next weekend. That’ll be nine weeks since his injury. By then, he should be 100 percent. As the Vikings enter the stretch run, he would obviously provide an important boost to the most important stretch of the schedule.
