The Eagles won in ugly fashion against the Jacksonville Jaguars, much in part because of their ground game. Perhaps most impressive of them all was fourth year running back Miles Sanders, who had a career day on the ground. Because of his impressive performance, he is the Eagles’ offensive player of the week.
Highlights of the Game
Sanders rushed for career high 134 yards against Jacksonville, putting the offense on his back on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Although Jalen Hurts, Kenneth Gainwell, and Trey Sermon all got involved in the rushing game, Sanders carried the load with 27 carries. He was able to punch in two touchdowns on the ground, including the game sealing score midway through the fourth quarter.
It wasn’t just the scoring plays where he was effective, though. Early in the first quarter, Sanders caught a pass and outran Jaguars’ linebacker Foyesade Oluokun to the sideline for a gain of 16 yards. On his first touchdown run, he was able to cut his way through the Jaguars’ defense on the way to an 11-yard score. Then early in the third quarter, he caught a pass and broke five tackles before getting tripped up for a six-yard gain. Sanders put his elusiveness on full display in this one on his way to an excellent game.
Miles Sanders Future Outlook
In a crowded Eagles backfield, Sanders isn’t expected to consistently produce like he did on Sunday. However, he showed his talents and proved his capabilities as a runner. Through just four games, Sanders is already nearly halfway to his career best single season rushing yard total. If he continues this production, the Eagles offense will be very hard to stop.
It really all depends on Sander’s health. Lack of skill has never been his problem; it’s been his availability. However, heading into week five, he looks healthy, shifty, and better than ever. The Eagles are getting back to their 2021 form on the ground, and it all starts with their RB1.
