The Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles came into Wild Card weekend with questions surrounding their respective head coaches. The Steelers and Eagles lost their playoff playoff matchups on Monday. We’ll look at a trade that would send Mike Tomlin to the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.
There has been a rumor floating that Tomlin could skip the 2024 season with the Steelers due to his contract situation. Tomlin has never entered a season in Pittsburgh on the last year of a contract.
The Super Bowl-winning coach is reportedly undecided if he wants to stay in Pittsburgh for a more extended period of time. Tomlin might want to reset his situation as the Steelers quarterback situation is turning into a nightmare.
Philadelphia has a different story.
The Eagles have a lot of talent, including at quarterback. But they underachieved at a critical point in the season. The Eagles finished their season, losing six of their final seven games. Per Mike Florio with NBC Sports, there was a feeling the Eagles could part with head coach Nick Sirianni if they had a short exit in the postseason:
“An unmistakable undercurrent remains that a change isn’t out of the question, if things continue to go poorly against the Bucs. The key could be the availability of Bill Belichick…
It could be that the Eagles don’t want Sirianni to freak out in advance of Monday night’s game. It could be that they wouldn’t make a change unless they were 100 percent certain they’d get Belichick.
The Eagles’ locker room has been toxic during their losing streak.
The Pittsburgh Steelers trade Tomlin in this trade proposal
If Tomlin wants to part with the Steelers, Pittsburgh should absolutely seek a trade to try and receive compensation for a highly-valued coach. The Eagles would make sense as a trade partner for the Steelers because it’s a situation in which Tomlin would flourish.
The Eagles have a talented roster and a franchise quarterback. Tomlin has dealt with a patchwork team in Pittsburgh for several seasons. The quarterback situation hasn’t been ideal for the Steelers since the mid-2010s. Tomlin could fix issues with the current Eagles’ defense.
Here’s a trade that would work for both sides:
Steelers receive
- 2024 second-round pick
Eagles receive
- Tomlin
The Eagles would gain a head coach who could lead their talented roster to a Super Bowl win. The Steelers would receive the necessary capital to start their rebuild. The Steelers must search for a new quarterback and rebuild their offensive line.
