Mike Tomlin and the Steelers beat the Jets 37-15 and Minkah Fitzpatrick had a beautifully blocked extra point, but controversy marred the play. The Jets were given a second chance at a two-point conversion when Fitzpatrick was first flagged for leverage. However, as Mike Tomlin confirmed post-game, the NFL later admitted that the penalty against Fitzpatrick was incorrect.
Mike Tomlin addressed the error in his usual pragmatic fashion.
“I talked to New York, and they did tell me Minkah’s block was legal – which I knew in-stadium. But that’s life. None of us are perfect. There’s going to be mistakes made in-game… by coaches, players, and officials,”
Tomlin explained. His message to the team remained clear: don’t let these mistakes define the game’s outcome.
🚨BREAKING: The #NFL says that #Steelers Minkah Fitzpatrick should NOT HAVE BEEN FLAGGED for the leverage play on Sunday Night Football, the league told Mike Tomlin.

Moving forward they should’ve been buzzed in right after the play from NY…

Not The First Time Fitzpatrick Has Had An Incorrect Call Against Him
This isn’t the first time Fitzpatrick is in the middle of an officiating scandal. The league admitted to an earlier erroneous flag against him in a game against the Colts earlier this season. But Mike Tomlin pointed out the Steelers cannot expect officiating to be perfect, and that personal accountability is required.
The Steelers didn’t budge despite the call. The penalty moved the ball closer for the Jets to get the two-point conversion, but Pittsburgh again controlled the rest of the game. Tomlin’s sole focus is on the ability to be resilient and be able to play 60 minutes without focusing on the officiating mistakes.
‘The game is full of human error,’ Tomlin said, ‘and it’s the best teams that find a way to win.’ For the Steelers, this means building on their recent victories while learning from every play – both on and off the field.
As Tomlin aptly put it, “That’s life, man. You’ve got to smile in the face of it.”
