The trade of Davante Adams to the New York Jets attracted incredible attention from the football world yesterday by reuniting the All-Pro wide receiver with Aaron Rodgers. This blockbuster move has immediate fantasy football ramifications, specifically how it will impact the rest of the Jets’ offense. Is Davante Adams the primary weapon in the Jets’ offense, now, let’s take a look at what fantasy owners can expect from these players going forward and who they are now that Davante Adams is the main piece in the offense.

Garrett Wilson: Superstar Status Intact?
Before the trade, Garrett Wilson had been Rodgers’ favorite target in earning lots of targets week in and week out. With the arrival of Davante Adams, some fantasy owners are wondering if he is going to take a ton of targets away from Wilson. Wilson’s owners will be happy to hear that his role should still be secure, though he will be targeted slightly lower with more efficiency.
Defenses will now have to keep an eye on two high-priority receivers instead of just Wilson. This should open the defense up for both wideouts making it increasingly more difficult. Under press coverage, these guys will thrive, especially with Rodgers throwing the ball. Wilson is likely to continue to be the Jets’ 1B receiver and still be considered one of the better fantasy WR1s. It might hurt him on red zone targets, but a more efficient offense should help him.

Allen Lazard: Slot Role Solidified or Fading?
Quietly, Allen Lazard had put himself in a position to be a safe fantasy option for the Jets in their slot receiver role early in the season. Lazard had chemistry with Rodgers from their days in Green Bay and it showed early on in production during the first couple of games. With Davante Adams back in the picture, the question becomes if Lazard will fade into the background.
The truth is, Lazard’s role will probably shrink slightly, but Lazard could still add value in deeper leagues as a flex option or fill in for a bye week, and pray for that all-important touchdown. Rodgers has never been a man who’s afraid to trust a slot receiver in a crucial moment, no matter what formation they’re in. While Adams will indeed catch most of the downfield balls, I still think Lazard has some decent PPR points to contribute if Rodgers uses him underneath. Lazard isn’t an afterthought, yet, his ceiling is just a little lower.

Breece Hall and Aaron Rodgers: Efficiency Boost?
With Davante Adams on board, the entire Jets backfield should see a boost in efficiency. It’s a dream scenario for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who already has an impressive resume. With Adams’ deep ball capability, it will stretch the field allowing Breece Hall to have to break fewer tackles.
For a player like Hall, more room on the edges, and less defensive focus on a run game where he was being kept out of the end zone, could mean more chances to repeat RB1 production. With the better passing game, there will be fewer stacked boxes and Hall might find himself breaking off some bigger runs.

Mike Williams: Trade Incoming?
With the addition of Davante Adams, the Jets’ wide receiver room has gotten crowded and Mike Williams is the odd man out. After failing to produce much while trying to establish himself in the Jets’ offense, Williams may soon be heading out through a trade. This offseason, Williams signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Jets, but with Adams and Wilson logging the outside time and Allen Lazard in the slot, Williams’ playing time will be limited.
Williams has caught only 10 passes for 145 yards this season and his struggles have sparked talk that he could be dealt before the trade deadline. The reason is that the Jets don’t have any incentive to keep a high-priced WR4 on the roster and they will probably receive calls from other teams that desperately need depth at Wide Receiver. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on Williams, a move to a new team could be just what the fantasy doctor ordered for Williams’ value moving forward.
