REPORT: Michigan Wolverines have 2024 Head Coach in Waiting Should Jim Harbaugh Leave

According to reports, the Michigan Wolverines will replace head coach Jim Harbaugh with offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore should Harbaugh take a job in the NFL.

Moore went undefeated as the interim head coach for the Michigan Wolverines this season. Harbaugh served a self-imposed three game suspension at the beginning of the year, but Moore was not the interim head coach for two of those victories.

Harbaugh was suspended for three games at the end of the regular season by the Big Ten for sign-stealing allegations. Moore was the head coach for those three games, which included a victory over Michigan’s biggest rival in the Ohio State Buckeyes. Moore also beat the Penn State Nittany Lions, and followed it up with a passionate postgame speech.

    Great speech
Sherrone Moore seems like a good man

He’s a really bad playcaller & should probably be demoted to RB coach after that remarkably conservative, vanilla, & run-obsessed game

In an article from CBS Sports, Moore showed his confidence in the eventual national championship winning team.

“All I know is this team is as good as any in the country. And I think they just prove it every week,” Moore said after Saturday’s rivalry win.

Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, who just led his team to a 2023-2024 national championship victory, interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Atlanta Falcons.

Just because Harbaugh has interviewed with NFL teams does not mean he will go to the NFL. He interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings in a recent offseason, but he did not end up coaching the Vikings.

Harbaugh has yet to sign an extension, despite reports that Michigan has offered to make him the highest paid coach in college football. Harbaugh has reportedly requested a clause that grants him immunity from impending NCAA investigations.

Harbaugh and the Wolverines are not only under investigation for sign-stealing, but they are also under investigation for recruiting violations committed during the COVID year. Harbaugh claimed he and the team were innocent after their national championship victory, yet he still insists on an immunity clause.

If Jim Harbaugh remains the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Sherrone Moore could be one of the highest paid coordinators in the country

According to the same reports that say Moore would quickly be named the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines if Harbaugh were to leave, Moore and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter would become some of the highest paid coordinators in the country.

“One or both would get somewhere around $2.5 to $4.5 million,” according to reports.

    BREAKING:
Per sources, Michigan is ready to make both Sherrone Moore and Jesse Minter the highest paid coordinators in college football. One or both may get somewhere around 2.5 to 4.5 million. That will be alongside making coach Jim Harbaugh the highest paid head coach in…

    — MichiganNation2 (@MichiganNation2) January 21, 2024

Moore’s current $1.15 million salary already makes him tied for the second-highest paid offensive line coach in the country. He only sits behind Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Kyle Flood, who makes $1.25 million.

Michigan had the 54th best rushing offense in college football and the 69th best total offense under Moore. Despite ranking relatively low in yardage, their 35.9 points per game was good for 14th in the nation.

The stats may not say Moore is one of the best offensive minds in the country, but the Wolverines won a national title with him in control of the offense.
