Zinter received a loud ovation upon his exit while running back Blake Corum scored on a 22-yard rush on the following play. Corum threw up a six and a five after the touchdown, a tribute to his teammate Zinter. In a touching act of sportsmanship, Ohio State and Michigan players gathered around Zinter, offering prayers and condolences.
Michigan Football: Zak Zinter Anchored Strong UM Rushing Attack
Ziner joined the Michigan Wolverines in 2020, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2022. The six-foot-six guard also made the second-team All-Big Ten team as a sophomore in 2021. Michigan won the Joe Moore Award that season, a recognition given to the country’s best college football offensive line unit.
Per the NFL Mock Draft Database website, Zinter projects to hear his name called in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. However, ESPN’s Mel Kiper believes Zinter could go as early as late in the first round. The leg injury suffered on Saturday could cloud his availability for draft-related workouts, with the offensive guard going down late in the season.
Michigan Takes Down Ohio State at the Big House
The Michigan Wolverines bested Ohio State on Saturday, 30-24. Defensive back Rob Moore intercepted Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord late in the fourth quarter, sealing the win for the Wolverines. Each team entered the regular season finale with stout defensive units, but the offenses shined in Week 13. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy played well in victory, going 16 of 20 for 148 yards and a touchdown. He added four carries for 17 yards. The Wolverines will now face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship while almost certainly locking up a College Football Playoff spot. Meanwhile, Ohio State will need a miracle, like losses from FSU, Washington, and Michigan, to sneak into the CFP.
