The Michigan football program continues to experience coaching staff turnover after winning the 2023 College Football National Championship. Head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, taking the frontman position with the Los Angeles Chargers, while the Wolverines promoted offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore as his successor. In a corresponding move, Michigan elevated quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell to offensive play caller. However, they must again fill another high-level coaching position after losing their special teams coordinator on Monday. Per NFL insider Ari Meirov, special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh expects to land with the Seattle Seahawks under the same job title.
The #Seahawks are expected to hire Jay Harbaugh as their special teams coordinator under new HC Mike Macdonald, per @AlbertBreer. There were rumblings he'd follow his Dad to the Chargers, but he's instead headed to Seattle. Chargers are likely to retain Ryan Ficken as STC. pic.twitter.com/N6DPqG8YLu

According to Meirov, the younger Harbaugh will not reunite with his father in Los Angeles. Instead, the Chargers will likely keep Ryan Ficken on as special teams coordinator, per Meirov.
Jay Harbaugh: Out with Michigan Football After Nine Seasons
The son of former Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, Jay started his coaching arc with the San Francisco 49ers as an intern before taking a student assistant position with the Oregon State Beavers from 2008 to 2011. He spent four years with the Beavers before transitioning to an analyst job with the Baltimore Ravens, working under his uncle, John Harbaugh. During his tenure with the AFC North club, the Ravens beat the Jim Harbaugh-led San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Jay Harbaugh followed his father to Michigan in 2015, serving as the tight ends coach and assistant special teams coordinator for two seasons. The Wolverines promoted the California native to special teams coordinator in 2017, a position he has held ever since. However, he operated as the running backs coach from 2017 to 2020, the tight ends coach in 2021, and the safeties coach for the past two seasons. The younger Harbaugh earned his first official college football win as a head coach last season, leading the Wolverines to a 35-7 win over the UNLV Rebels during his father’s three-game suspension.
Michigan Wolverines: Sherrone Moore Era Begins Next Fall
The Michigan football program will look to repeat as national champions next season, albeit with a new identity. The Wolverines will be led by Sherrone Moore next fall after former head coach Jim Harbaugh left Ann Arbor after nine seasons. Meanwhile, they must replace a bevy of starters on both offense and defense. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy parlayed his fantastic 2023 campaign into a potential high selection in the upcoming NFL draft. Meanwhile, star running back Blake Corum and wideout Roman Wilson will also head to the pros for next season.
Linebacker Junior Colson and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins own first-round grades for the 2024 NFL draft. According to Ourlads, corner Mike Sainristil and linebacker Michal Barrett are late-round selections, while edge rusher Jaylen Harrell is currently a day-two prospect.
