The Michigan football program is riding high despite midseason allegations surrounding a sign-stealing scandal that nearly derailed their season. The Wolverines posted an undefeated regular season, beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship, and made the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive season. However, some of their players are still looking to jump ship. Per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun will enter the transfer portal.

Linebacker Joey Velazquez also entered the transfer portal on Thursday. Valazquez posted seven tackles in his four years with the Wolverines. Michigan also lost running backs Leon Franklin and CJ Stokes to the transfer portal but gained offensive lineman Josh Priebe from Northwestern and linebacker Jaishawn Barham from Maryland.
CB Cameron Calhoun: Enters Transfer Portal After Short-Lived Stint With Michigan Football
Cameron Calhoun joined the Wolverines this season as a four-star recruit, per 247Sports. The Winton Woods product earned high praise from national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu. The scouting expert lauded Calhoun for his size and ability to force turnovers. Trieu also projected the Ohio native to become a Power Five starter.
Calhoun will leave Ann Arbor after just one season. The career interceptions leader at Winton Woods appeared in two games but did not register any statistics.
Michigan Wolverines: Face Alabama Crimson Tide on New Year’s Day
The Wolverines will battle the one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Alabama bested the then-undefeated Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship, leapfrogging them and the undefeated Florida State Seminoles for the final spot among the four highest-ranked teams in college football. The Crimson Tide have won three titles since the inception of the CFP in 2014.
Michigan has made the CFP in each of the past three seasons, but a win over Alabama on New Year’s Day would mark their first win in the new format. The Wolverines last won the National Championship in 1997, with Lloyd Carr as their head coach and Charles Woodson winning the Heisman Trophy Award.
