The Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a few words to say to Stephen A. Smith after he made some comments about the Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa.
Smith has been under some fire for some of the comments he’s made recently about Tagovailoa, but his teammate has heard enough.
Miami Dolphins WR: “I’m sick and tired of people bashing my QB.”
It was just earlier this week that Stephen A. Smith was on First Take talking about the Miami Dolphins, claiming the success of the team was based less on Tagovailoa’s throwing capabilities, but players like Tyreek Hill taking the short throws and turning them into bigger plays. Dan Orlovsky did call out Smith, saying Smith had to stop calling Tua a ‘dink-and dunk quarterback’, Smith responded, deflecting the situation by saying his words were skewed:
“I didn’t say he’s a dink-and-dunk quarterback,” Smith said. “What I said is that there are times when he’s dinking and dunking to Tyreek Hill. Not all the time, not most of the time, but I was making a point that Tyreek Hill can take a 3-yard pass and take it to the house. I wasn’t trying to say that’s all Tua does. It’s not accurate.”
Hill went on his podcast, It Needed to be Said, talking about how he was sick of people bashing his quarterback:
“I’m sick and tired of people bashing my quarterback for no reason,” Hill said. “He’s been doing a hell of a job this year and people need to stop giving him crap…A lot of people don’t understand what my dawg went through just to get here, especially last year. And to get to where he is now? Being talked about as the MVP? That’s next level, man.”
Tyreek Hill responds to Stephen A. Smith and all the critics hating on Tua on his podcast (@cheetah_podcast) and it’s 🔥
“For Stephen A. Smith to go out of his way and say that Tua isn’t worthy of being the MVP it’s crazy to me. I’m sick of people bashing my QB for no reason.… pic.twitter.com/h9yIO40o5i

A lot of criticism has come towards the quarterback’s way in the last two years, especially after sustaining concussions and continued to play through them. But a lot of NFL media members have argued that a substantial amount of Tua’s success comes from the coaching and then the talent around him. But the tapes show differently, Hill even saying he doesn’t know what games Smith has been watching:
“I’m not going to call him a clown,” said Hill. “I’m not going to call him any kind of name. All I’m going to say is, Stephen A. Smith – to me, I don’t really know what to say. But if we would really just watch the game and watch how we play, none of our routes are really two yards.
“Quarterback is the hardest position in the league, ya feel me? And for Stephen A. Smith to go out of his way to say that Tua isn’t worthy of the MVP is crazy to me. If you look at all the quarterbacks, except Lamar Jackson, all the MVPs, they had guys.”
Not like Tagovailoa leads the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, and passing first downs or anything…But Smith apparently contributes all of that success to his WR1, Tyreek Hill:
“I don’t know if y’all watching Miami enough,” Smith said. “All of these passes ain’t for 19, 20, 30, 40 yards. You just got Tua dipping it 2 yards to [Tyreek Hill] and he the one taking it to the house.”
But, are you watching the Dolphins enough, Stephen? It was ironically funny while Smith was commenting on Tagovailoa’s ‘short passes’, a highlight reel played that showed the QB throwing a 50-yard dot.
Stephen A on live TV claiming Tua only throws 2 yard passes to Tyreek while a highlight of Tua throwing a 50 yard in stride bomb plays in the background perfectly epitomizes how embarrassing the Tua discourse is within the sports media world pic.twitter.com/MsyKzG425y
