The Miami Dolphins are giving quarterback Tua Tagovailoa some backup help after he missed six games last season. While they have Snoop Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Tim Boyle that they utilized in place of Tagovailoa, Miami wanted to add a little more cushion.
The Dolphins signed former Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson to a one-year, $6 million dollar contract, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. This deal is guaranteed and holds worth up to $10 million with incentives that have yet to be disclosed.
Miami Dolphins Sign QB Zach Wilson

Wilson was a No. 2 pick by the New York Jets in 2021, before he was traded to the Denver Broncos last April. The quarterback was fighting for a spot as the starting QB against rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham throughout training camp. However, Wilson would miss his shot and Nix was given the nod.
In Denver’s final preseason game, Wilson did throw for 251 yards and two touchdowns, but remained on the roster for the season as a third quarterback.
He didn’t see a single snap in 2024 with Denver, but it was miles better than what he did in New York.
His time in New York was disastrous; a 12-21 record as a starter, only completed 57% of his passes, had more interceptions (25) than he did touchdown passes (23). After the completion of the 2023 season, he was granted permission to talk to other NFL teams for a potential trade.
Other Free Agent Signings

Aside from signing Wilson, the Miami Dolphins also inked some new athletes, as well as some returners.
Miami resigned free agent OLB Quinton Bell to a one-year deal that’s worth an estimated $1.5 million. Bell joined the Dolphins’ practice squad halfway through the 2023 season where he would later sign a reserve/future contract to stay with the team.
Bell played 257 defensive snaps in 2024, ending the year with 27 total tackles, three quarterback hits, and a sack.
Defensive lineman Matt Dickerson was resigned to the team after appearing in four games last season with the Dolphins. Contract details have not been disclosed yet.
Tom Pelissero posted Monday night that veteran OL James Daniels will be signing a three-year, $24M contract. Daniels spent the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but only appeared in four games due to an Achilles tear that sat him out for the season.
Tackle Larry Borom was also signed. Borom, a fifth-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 2021, played in 47 games, 27 of them being starts, playing at both tackle and guard.
